The iExcel unit provides a range of services to various university stakeholders and constituencies. The unit consults with and provides support to campuses, colleges, programs, departments, faculty, staff, and administrators for university- wide assessment, including general education. It supports university accreditation efforts and coordinates the program review process by developing systematic policies and processes, assessment resources and ensuring that the reporting is designed to keep the university system informed, engaged, and focused on action.

When requested or warranted, iExcel will provide workshops and other instructional, pedagogical, or technical services to academic units.

It also compiles, analyzes, and presents assessment data to the university community in a form that stresses actionable results while also working to improve data-level acuity, precision, and consistency across campus.

The unit will promote the use of assessment instruments and methods that are embedded within students’ normal learning experiences, engagement with new, effective developments within the larger assessment community, and the use of existing and emergent technologies in support of Teaching and Learning Commons goals, but also work to reduce surveying and redundant assessment efforts.

The institution’s course level quality assurance system, Quality Matters, is also under the direction of the iExcel unit.
