Academic Events

Virtual / Hybrid / HyFlex

The Teaching and Learning Commons (TLC) supports and offer consultations and assistance/guidance for virtual/hybrid/HyFlex educational events directly related to WVU faculty training and support, student education and success, and special events that support the land-grant mission of the University.

We execute instructional efficiencies, often collaborating with UR, ITS, A&E, Erickson Alumni Center AV, College of Law AV, HSC ITS, among others to consolidate efforts and utilize in-house locations, talents, and expertise. We manage and offer training and support for two Zoom Webinars licenses and one Zoom Large Meeting license, available for reservation by WVU colleges and departments.

TLC supports virtual/in person/hybrid events with set-up, assistance, training, production, and event management. Whenever possible, we strive to empower faculty and staff to be the host of their own events and encourage the use of TLC classrooms and WVU locations that are equipped to stream and record. We provide event report tracking, video editing, and third-party captioning services when applicable.

Testimonials

“It took a lot of people to pull this off and make Senator Manchin’s Academy Training Day the event that it was. I want to acknowledge the role you played in supporting the technology needs for several of our sessions. I can’t thank you each enough, taking on this task and spending a good chunk of your Saturday in doing so. Your service to WVU and the state of West Virginia on that day, in that event, is deeply appreciated.”

EXAMPLES OF IMPACT

In 2022, we had more than 89 events spanning more than 25 WVU Colleges and Departments. Most all requested events were TLC Zoom Webinars used for the purpose of virtual/hybrid/HyFlex instructional lectures, seminars, conferences, and meetings.

For WV - Land Grant Institution Events

  • Senator Manchin Academy Training Day – Because the vendor could not stream, TLC VU and TLC Classrooms provided last minute tech support on-site and virtually for Senator Manchin to Zoom in from Washington D.C. and present on screen to the audience.
  • WVU NSF Directorate for STEM Education Day – Video recorded and streamed this hybrid event at the College of Law, edited and captioned all video. Collaboration with Law School AV Tech.
  • Certified Tobacco Treatment Training Program – Video recorded this hybrid event to produce professional video. Will be used by TLC for a Badge and an online course, COUN 930. Collaboration with HSC ITS/Classrooms to record in room presentations.
  • INTEGRATE - Video recorded this hybrid event in a TLC classroom to produce professional video.
  • Focus Forward: Beyond the Cloud – Used TLC Zoom Webinar. Provided Zoom tech support as Host, training, reports, file support, editing, and captioning.
  • Classroom2Career Summit Hybrid event at WVU Launch Lab with other locations via Zoom, provided in-room AV support (WVU Launch Lab) and Zoom tech support as Host, streaming, recording, training, reports, file support, editing, and captioning.
