Laptop Connections

NOTE: These are general instructions for connecting a laptop to the projection system. Your laptop may have other specific instructions to follow.

Since your laptop is not a device adjusted specifically for the installed system, please test this device in the classroom prior to the event. If you would like assistance, please contact the Classroom Technology staff to schedule a testing session.

HOW TO USE:

A. See our Input Panel page for help connecting your laptop to the projection system.

B. IMPORTANT: If the projector appears to be ON but your laptop’s image does not appear at this point, you may need to toggle the laptop’s video output. This is done a little differently on each laptop model, but most older models require simultaneously pressing the “Fn” (function) and “F8″ buttons. Some laptops will use the” Fn” and “F4″ buttons. Doing this should switch the laptop from showing an image on it’s local monitor (only), to the projector (only), or to both at once.

C. If you are using audio/video clips or streaming A/V, adjust the volume using the touchpanel “Room” volume slider control.

D. You may mute the volume by pressing the speaker button below the slider bar.

E. PLEASE NOTE: Classroom laptop inputs are VGA or HDMI. If you have a device with a different connector, such as a Macbook Pro or a tablet device, you may need to provide an adapter to use this equipment in the classroom.


ADDITIONAL TROUBLESHOOTING:
  • Laptop isn't appearing the same on the laptop display as on the projector.
    • On the keyboard, press and hold the 'Windows' button, then press 'P'. This brings up the projection menu. Select "Duplicate". In dual-projection classrooms or multi-display classrooms, select "Extend".
